Commission Guide
Hi there,
This short guide will help answer any questions you may have about commissioning work and procedures when working with us and our artists, illustrators or animators. We try to keep this guide as informative as possible, if you don't find your answers here, you can read our FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions), if all else fails we're always here for you only a phone call away at 1.844.GO-MADARTIST or (1-844-466-2327 Toll Free in US/Canada, call 1.905.334.3560 Internationally).
We want to ensure that our clients understand thoroughly the processes of commissioning our artists for an illustration, a book, an ad campaign, a storyboard, concept work on a film or video game or any other creative project you may require an artist for.
Every artist is different and works at different speeds. Some styles are quick and several artwokrs a day can be created, others require many days per image, the detail and complexity of the artist portfolios gives you a pretty good idea of how long an image will take to complete. Once you sign an agreement with our agency, you’ll be able to review artist portfolios and see the length of time it took to create each of the images and our agents can assist you with the quoting process as well so you will never get overcharged.
As a general rule artists rates range from $300 to $2000 per day depending on the popularity of the artist, style and complexity of the work they're creating. You may hire an artist based on days or hours, once you provide us with your project specifications our managers will be able to provide you with an estimate of time that would be required to complete a project. Furthermore in some cases, there can be additional licensing fees concerning the uses, the territory, the length of use (amount of time) and the possible sale of the original physical artworks.
Below are some questions that helps us quote if it is a publishing project, although many of the questions are relevant to other projects:
-Please describe what the composition might involve? people? animals? landscapes? etc...
-Can you send over a visual or detailed art specs?
-How large are the illustrations? 1/4, 1/2 or full pages, if known?
-How many illustrations do you require?
-Can you pass along the samples of the artist's that you like as a style guide/reference?
-Can you send over layouts with text in place so the artists knows the exact space they have to work with, if available?
-If illustrations are for a book, what is the trim size of the book?
-When would you like the artwork created, i.e. your timing?
-Where will this advertisement, brochure, book be distributed, nationally or Worldwide etc?
-Would you like to use the images solely in the book, or in other places, such as merchandising?
-If you have a ballpark budget that would be helpful to know.
We look forward to hearing from you and will be delighted to help further with your project.
